The Public Health Intelligence Curriculum
The Public Health Intelligence Curriculum complements the Public Health Intelligence Competency Framework. The Curriculum suggests a structured training approach for PHI professionals to develop necessary competencies and knowledge, skills and abilities. The Curriculum also introduces the Foundations of Public Health Intelligence training which prepares learners for roles in PHI by exploring the historical foundations, practical applications, ethical considerations, and legal frameworks that underpin PHI activities.
The Curriculum aligns with the same technical and functional domains as the Framework and translates the tasks from the Framework into courses and learning objectives. The courses and learning objectives can be adapted to different audiences and settings.

How to use the Public Health Intelligence Curriculum
Adaptable to different learning contexts
The Framework and the Curriculum can be adapted for different settings:
- Preservice settings – such as university courses for postgraduate and graduate students.
- In-training settings – such as field epidemiology training programmes.
- In-service settings – such as professionals working on applied public health tasks.
The Curriculum is designed for modular adaptation:
- Identify the target audience and training needs.
- Select relevant domains and courses based on job roles.
- Adapt the content to reflect language, culture and resource contexts.
- Implement the training and evaluate its effectiveness.
Organisations are encouraged to customise the Curriculum by adding or removing learning objectives to align with their health security priorities.
